Michael Bruns, age 58, of Olivia, died Wednesday eve, June 11, 2014 at the Renville County Hospital in Olivia. Funeral services are Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Zion United Methodist Church in Danube with Pastor Russ Jacobsen officiating. Burial is in the Olivia Cemetery. Visitation is Sunday at Zion Methodist Church in Danube from 4-8 p.m. and continues there Monday for one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers Mike's family prefers memorials which they will then send to charities, including Hope House at Mayo and the Renville County Hospice which were helpful to his journey as he battled cancer. Arrangements are with Dirks-Blem Funeral Service of Olivia.

Michael Lee Bruns was born October 17, 1955 in Redwood Falls, MN, to Andrew and Laverne (Negen) Bruns. He grew up at rural Danube and graduated from Danube High School in 1974 after which he attended Technical College for automotive training. Mike married Jolene Baumgartner on November 7, 1981 and they are the parents of four children. He owned and operated Countryside Auto Body for several years. Mike worked for Honzay's Direct Service, now Farmers Coop Oil Company up until January of this year when his illness didn't allow him to. He was a faithful member of Faith United Methodist Church in Olivia. Mike's passion was horses and he loved riding and participating in ranch rodeos with his daughter, where penning was their specialty. He also loved racing cars, watching his sons race, and time spent haying.

Mike is survived by his four children: Shaun (and Becky) Bruns of Danube, Shane Bruns of Olivia, Lindsey Bruns of Gaylord, and Michael Bruns (and special friend Sara Liebl) of Olivia; and four grandchildren, Ian, Faith, Addison, and Josie; his parents Andrew and Laverne Bruns of Danube; his siblings Lois (and Gary) Beckendorf of Renville, Linda (and Terry) Marguth of Redwood Falls, Lori (and Dave) Lang of Danube, and Kevin Bruns (and special friend Jennifer) of Belview; and many nieces and nephews. Mike was preceded in death by his grandson Dominick Bruns and his niece Karina Bruns.
