STARBUCK -- Michael John Rutledge, 70, of Starbuck died Friday in Rochester.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glenwood.
Visitation is for one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Minnewaska Lutheran Cemetery in Starbuck. Military Honors will be provided by Starbuck VFW.
Arrangements are with Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck.
He was born Nov. 23, 1938, in Benson to Matt and Elsie (Newlin) Rutledge. He attended country school south of Benson and graduated from Benson High School in 1956. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Greenland and in Rapid City, S.D. In June 1959, he married Sharon Stinson in New Underwood, S.D. They lived in South Dakota while he served at Ellsworth Air Force Base. Following his discharge, they moved to California before moving to Morris.
He worked as a carpenter. In 1966, they moved to the Starbuck area, where he farmed and drove cattle.
Sharon died in 2002.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glenwood and Starbuck VFW.
He is survived by his children: Cindi ( and John) Upham of Lillian, Ala., Bill (and Sherry) Rutledge of Bemidji, Matt (and Donna) Rutledge of Hayfield and Peggi (and John) Bockman of Gainesville, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and two sisters: Kay O'Neil and Sue Saulsbury.
He was preceded in death by a grandson and a granddaughter.
