KERKHOVEN - Mildred E. Nelson, 100, of Kerkhoven, died Monday, December 23rd at Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar. Her funeral will be 2:00 pm, Friday, December 27th at Evangelical Free Church in Kerkhoven. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Kerkhoven. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Friday. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Kerkhoven.

Mildred was born on January 4, 1913, in Swift County, Minnesota, the daughter of Sigfred and Hulda (Carlson) Nelson. She attended schools in Kerkhoven, graduating in 1931 from Kerkhoven High School. Following graduation, Mildred stayed home and helped her parents on the farm. In 1944, she moved to Chicago where she attended the Free Church bible school, Trinity College, graduating in 1946. She then moved to Holdrege, Nebraska where she worked in a childrens home and started her calling and lifelong missionary work which took her from Nebraska, to the mountains of Kentucky, to Sioux Falls and finally to North Park College in Chicago. In 1966, she returned home to care for her parents and also worked at Fingerhut. Mildred retired in 1976.

While being home, she was a Sunday school teacher, deaconess, and enjoyed singing.

Surviving is her sister, Ella Anderson of Willmar.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and sisters, Helga Swenson and Esther Westberg.
