WILLMAR — Austin Miley and McKenzie Hastad were named the outstanding athlets of the 2013 Willmar High School senior class as symbolized by the Lions Award. The Senior Athletic Awards Program was held Sunday at Willmar High School and sponsored annually by the Noon Lions Club. Activities director Ryan Blahosky hosted the event and introduced the keynote speaker, Mike Max of WCCO Sports radio.

Lions Award/Cardinal Coaches Scholarship

McKenzie Hastad: Volleyball (capt.), basketball, softball (capt). 7 letters. Basketball Defense Award. CLC Scholar/Athlete. Academic All-State.  

Austin Miley: Cross country (capt.), wrestling (capt.), track and field . 15 total letters, five in each sport. Wrestling state qualifier, team and individual. CLC Scholar/Athlete.

Presenter: Russ Bennett (Noon Lions).

Jim Helin Memorial Award

Jordan Martins: Soccer, basketball, softball. 11 letters. Captain in all three sports. In soccer, five letters, three MVPs. CLC Scholar/Athlete. Academic All-State.

Adam Nibaur: Football, basketball, baseball. CLC Scholar/Athlete. Football Offensive Player of the Year. Seven letters. CLC Scholar/Athlete.

True Grit Award

Miranda Roelofs: Volleyball, hockey (capt.), track and field (capt.). Nine letters. State qualifier track. Signed for track and field by Northern State University. 

Brady Damhof: Soccer, basketball, golf. Six letters. CLC Scholar/Athlete. All-State Academic. Fought his way back from horrific wounds to left shoulder and back suffered in a hunting accident as a 13-year-old eighth-grader. Had to give up his favorite sport, football, but took up soccer and competed at a high level in three sports.

Tara Rudie: Cross country (capt.), basketball, track and field (capt.). Twelve letters. Regional Triple Award winner, CLC Scholar/Athlete, Academic All-State.  State entrant CC.

Trey “Buzzy” Tollefson: Football (capt.), hockey (capt.), baseball, track. Ten letters; CLC Scholar/Athlete.
