Five injured in three-vehicle crash in Willmar

Minn. judge mulls conviction in fatal school bus crash

REDWOOD FALLS (AP) -- A judge is considering whether to grant the woman found guilty in a fatal bus crash in southwestern Minnesota a new trial or an acquittal.

Attorneys for Olga Marina Franco Del Cid made their case in Redwood Falls during a hearing Thursday. Judge David Peterson says he will issue a written ruling. Last month a jury in Kandiyohi County found Franco guilty of 24 charges, including four counts of criminal vehicular homicide. Franco lived in Minneota when the crash occurred Feb. 19 near Cottonwood. The Guatemalan immigrant is in the country illegally.

Her attorneys argue that prosecutors repeatedly elicited improper testimony from witnesses and withheld information about some witnesses from them.

Franco is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 8.
