Vanska will lead the orchestra in performances of Rachmaninoff's Third Piano Concerto, Elgar's "Enigma" Variations, and Respighi's (res-PEE'-gheez) tone poem "The Fountains of Rome."

Grammy-winning U.S. pianist Garrick Ohlsson will be featured as soloist in the Rachmaninoff concerto. Ohlsson has been a soloist with the Minnesota Orchestra many times since debuting with the ensemble in 1971.

The Minnesota Orchestra opens its 110th season Oct. 18-20. Most of the orchestra's 2012-13 season will be held in the Minneapolis Convention Center Auditorium while the orchestra's home at Orchestra Hall is temporarily closed for a major renovation.

The renovation is expected to be completed next summer.
