Minnesota QB Gray out with toe injury vs. Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) -- Minnesota quarterback MarQueis Gray has been knocked out of the starting lineup by a toe injury.

Gray was in warmups toay at Michigan.

Freshman Max Shortell got his first start after backing up Gray in each of the first four games.

Gray ran for 171 yards, the most by a Gophers QB, in the team's only win this season against the Miami RedHawks.

Shortell played well in the opener, helping Minnesota come back against USC in a 19-17 loss.
