Minnesota River nearing second crest levels in Montevideo and Granite Falls

MONTEVIDEO -- The Minnesota River is approaching projected, second crest levels in Montevideo and Granite Falls this afternoon.

The river reached 19.86 feet in Montevideo in late afternoon, 5.86 feet above flood stage. The Weather Service had earlier projected a possible crest at 20 feet.

The river reached 892.94 in Granite Falls this afternoon, and was projected to rise to 893 feet tonight.

Sanitary sewer services are shut off to the Smith Addition and Gravel Road areas in Montevideo. The city has not had had to raise the temporary levee on U.S. Highway 212, but is watching the river and making day-by-day decisions on what protective measures are needed, according to Mayor Debra Lee Fader.
