Minnewaska avenges loss for trip to state
FARGO, N.D. -- Minnewaska Area earned a trip to the Class A state tennis tournament by upsetting Melrose 4-3 for the Section 6A championship Monday.
Melrose, which had blanked the Lakers 7-0 two weeks earlier, came in as the favorite. But this time the Lakers were able to take a pair of points at both singles and doubles at the Fargo Racquet Club.
Kasie Rust won a three-setter at 2-singles and Alexa Lagred won 6-3, 6-0 at 4-singles. The Lakers took the first two points at doubles: Amber Jasckson-Britta Johnson won in three sets and Alicia Pfeninger-Erika Olson triumphed in straight sets.
Minnewaska will meet the Section 5A champion on Oct. 26 at the Nicollet Tennis Center in Minneapolis.
