Missing toddler found in vehicle
WILLMAR -- A 2-year-old boy, reported missing to law enforcement at 11:08 a.m. Wednesday, was located unharmed about 45 minutes later inside a neighbor's vehicle.
According to incident reports, the child was reported missing from a home in the area of 59th Avenue and 15th Street Northwest. A total of nine officers from the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's office responded to the call, along with the Willmar Ambulance, the county Rescue Squad, county Emergency Management Services and Pennock First Responders.
"Why we reacted that way is because we were already behind," said Sheriff Dan Hartog. He said the parents of the child had been searching for the boy about 20 to 30 minutes before calling for emergency assistance. Law enforcement and neighbors repeatedly searched the boy's home and the surrounding area before he was located.
A contractor working nearby found the boy, who was not hurt and only concerned that he didn't have any shoes on, according to Sheriff's Detective Paul Follman.
The sheriff's office had also called for a bloodhound from Pope County, the county sheriff's reserve all-terrain vehicle and the Minnesota State Patrol's helicopter. The Civil Air Patrol was also notified, but no aircraft took flight.
