WILLMAR -- The Minnesota Department of Transportation advises no unnecessary travel in southwestern Minnesota due to blowing snow, heavy drifting and reduced visibility.
As of 4 p.m. today, travel conditions in the following counties are considered hazardous with extremely cold wind chills, significantly reduced visibility and heavy ground drifting. Counties include: Chippewa, Lac qui Parle, Lincoln, Lyon, Murray, Pipestone, Redwood and Yellow Medicine.
As the strong winds move east, travel conditions in additional counties may also deteriorate late this afternoon and into the night.
No closures of state highways are anticipated at this time. However, motorists may encounter road closures later tonight if conditions deteriorate further.
Mn/DOT snow plow operators are out in force and will continue to make highways safe.
