MnDOT pulling snowplows in Kandiyohi County, more west central counties at 5 p.m.
WILLMAR -- The Minnesota Department of Transportation is pulling snowplows on state highways at 5 p.m. in southwestern Minnesota due to extremely low visibility, blowing snow and the onset of nightfall. The six counties are in Chippewa, Kandiyohi, Lac qui Parle, Meeker, McLeod, and Yellow Medicine.
Motorists are advised not to travel until conditions improve as driving conditions are extremely hazardous.
Snowplowing operations will resume in early Sunday as weather conditions improve.
Highways in Lincoln, Lyon, Murray, Pipestone, Redwood, Renville and a portion of McLeod counties were closed earlier today.
Motorists should plan accordingly. When a road is closed it is illegal to travel in that area. Motorists can be fined up to $1,000 and/or sentenced to 90 days in jail. In addition, if travelers need to be rescued from a closed road, other expenses and penalties will apply.
