“We suspend work on many projects during the Fourth of July holiday,” said Mike Barnes, MnDOT’s Operations director, in a news release. “However, there are still many work zones around the state where drivers need to plan ahead for and be aware of as they travel.”

MnDOT urges drivers to be alert to their surroundings, especially at night; obey posted speed limits, expect work zones to change from day to day; stay off cell phones and mobile devices; move other one lane if possible and reduce speed for construction or emergency vehicles.

Fines are doubled for speeding tickets in construction zones.

Highway projects in west central Minnesota include:

-- Highway 22 in Eden Valley, road closed, detour via County Road 9

-- Highway 24, detour from Litchfield to Highway 15

-- Highways 7/22, detour from Cosmos to Hutchinson

-- Highway 212, detour from Dawson to west of Highway 59

For information about construction projects and detours across the state, check 511mn.org, the department’s road information site.
