Montevideo 4th-grader hurt in swimming mishap
A fourth-grader at Maria L. Sanford Middle School in Montevideo was flown to a Twin Cities hospital Friday afternoon after a near-drowning during a class outing.
In a statement posted on its Web site, the Montevideo School District said the incident happened on Friday at the Kilowatt Community Center in Granite Falls. The outing was part of a reward day for the class.
While the students were in the Kilowatt Center swimming pool, a classmate found the youngster under water, the school district said. CPR was administered on site but the student could not be revived. An ambulance brought the youngster to the Granite Falls Hospital. The child later was flown to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.
David Baukol, superintendent of the Montevideo Schools, said this afternoon that additional information wouldn't be released until later, out of respect for the family.
The incident is still under investigation by the Granite Falls Police Department
