Montevideo buying new fire tanker

MONTEVIDEO -- Montevideo City Council members on Monday approved the low bid of $173,846 for a new tanker truck for the fire department.

Midwest Fire of Luverne offered the low bid. The city had also received a $173,947 bid from Heiman Fire Inc., of Sioux Falls, S.D., and bids of $187,500 and $206,864 from Toyne of Breda, Iowa, and Precision Fire Apparatus of Camdenton, Mo., respectively.

The city had set aside $178,000 for a new tanker truck, according to City Manager Steve Jones. The funds included $80,000 from townships, $40,000 from the city and $58,000 from the fire relief association.

In other business at the regular meeting, council members approved a liquor license for Yury Leon. He is opening El Rancho, a Mexican restaurant at 207 North First Street.

Council members also approved creating a new liquor store assistant manager position and action to provide a pay equity increase to the lead, full-time clerk position.
