Montevideo, Minn., Council OKs labor agreements, budget, levy
MONTEVIDEO — City council members in Montevideo on Monday approved the 2013 budget and levy, two-year labor contracts with city employees and set next year’s street projects.
The new budget calls for total general fund expenditures of $3,635,120 and revenues of $3,636,075.
Council members set the total tax levy for operations and debt services at $1,866,700, a three percent increase over last year.
Council members also approved two-year labor agreements with city employees represented by the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees and Law Enforcement Labor Services of Minnesota bargaining units.
The contracts provide wage increases of 2 percent in 2012 and 2.5 percent in 2014 and include some language changes, according to City Manager Steve Jones.
Council members also approved a list of proposed street improvement projects for 2013. The list includes an estimated $1,323,000 worth of work.
Projects would include work on Sheridan Avenue, from 11th Street to 17th Street; Park Avenue, from Ninth Street to 17th Street; the fairgrounds entrance at U.S. Highway 212; and paving the roadways at the cemetery and Smith Park. There is also alternate project, if bids are under budget, for work on Grove Avenue in the area of Legion Drive East.
The current estimates are based on assessments totaling $415,200 to benefited properties, $547,500 in state aid, and $464,200 in city funds to be bonded.
