Morris advances in Legion playoffs

MORRIS -- Morris Legion will take a 15-7 record to the District 7-II Tournament starting Tuesday in Montevideo after chilling Madison 5-1 in Sunday's Northwest Division championship.

Ryan Beyer's solo home run in the fifth made it 2-0 and Brady Valnes knocked in Eric Riley, who had doubled, for a 3-0 lead.

Alex Erickson cruised into the seventh inning when he was touched for RBI hits by Kevin Coffman and Mason Lampe.

But Erickson held on to finish with a five-hitter with 11 strikeouts.

Eric Paulson gave up 11 hits but didn't walk a Clinton batter while fanning eight. Meantime, three Clinton pitchers handed out 15 walks.

Madison, which led 12-0 after two innings, was led by Zach Flickinger with two hits and three RBI and Trent Hansen with two hits and two RBI.

Ryan Beyer had an RBI single in the first, a bases-loaded walk in the second and an RBI single in the fourth.

Scott Borman pitched a strong game for Madison, finishing with a five hitter.
