According to the Marshall Independent, Monson was one of three finalists interviewed for the position.

Other finalists included Patrick Westby, superintendent of West Central Area Schools in Barrett, and Steven Baule, superintendent of the North Boone School District in Poplar Grove, Ill.

“Finalists were interviewed by four different search committees, each representing different stakeholder groups in the Marshall school district. Members of the school board, school administrators, faculty, and Marshall area community members all gave feedback on the finalists,” the Marshall Independent reported Monday.

At the meeting, Chapman said Monson received positive ratings from the school board and search committees.

"He's extremely qualified. He's been a superintendent for 10 years," Chapman. School board members also felt Monson would be a good fit for the Marshall district, and would have good vision to carry the district forward, the paper reported.

Monson will replace outgoing superintendent Klint Willert, who had been with the district in Marshall for 10 years. In April, Willert was named superintendent of the Brainerd School District.

Monson has not responded to a request for comment at this time.
