Morris wins, then loses in 6A baseball

MORRIS -- Morris earned a spot in the Section 6A final four with a semifinal victory in the 6A-South against West Central, 10-3, Thursday.

The Tigers (12-11) lost to No. 1-seed Wheaton 9-8 in the 6A-South final, which puts Morris as the second seed from the South. The Tigers will play Hawley at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Morris 10, West Central 3

Morris expanded on its 1-0 lead with three runs in the third. Tanner Berning and Ryan Beyer each hit RBI singles and the third run scored on a wild pitch.

Chris Boettcher smack-ed a two-run double in the fourth.

Eric Riley went the distance, striking out 14 and walking one. He allowed three hits.

Riley Wilson's one-out, two-run single down the left field line in the seventh inning gave Wheaton (17-5) the win.

The Tigers tied the game in the sixth on Chris Boettcher's RBI double and a bases-loaded single by Darrick Henrichs.

Kevin Coffman and Dylan McCalip had three hits each for Wheaton, which beat Chokio-Alberta 6-3 earlier in the day.
