Morris/CA pounds on Paynesville, ties up WCS

PAYNESVILLE -- Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta improved to 9-1 in West Central South Conference girls basketball race with a 61-29 win over Paynesville Monday.

The Tigers, who are 15-2 overall, are now tied with Minnewaska Area for the top spot in the league.

The Tigers defense was stout, holding the Bulldogs to 10 field goals. Morris/CA also kept Paynesville from collecting too many free-throw opportunities by committing only seven fouls.

The Tigers, who made 25 field goals, held a 36-11 lead at halftime.

Mary Rentz led the Tigers to their fifth straight victory with 18 points. Megan Dierks added nine points and Stef Strobel and Jenna Nelson had seven apiece.

Jordan Spaulding paced the Bulldogs (1-10, 2-12) with 11 points. Heather Rondeau contributed seven points and seven rebounds.
