Joshua M. Rowe, 19, pleaded guilty last month to endangering safety by discharging a firearm and underage consumption of alcohol.

According to the criminal complaint, a husband and wife were traveling on U.S. Highway 53 on Aug. 16 when a glass window of their pickup shattered. Both were hit by fragments, and the man required treatment at a local hospital.

Rowe told authorities he was "drunk and being stupid."

Judge James Florey placed Rowe on two years of supervised probation, fined him $1,085, ordered him to write a letter of apology to the victims and pay them restitution in an amount that remains to be determined.

As conditions of his probation, Rowe must abstain from using drugs or alcohol, is subject to random testing for their use, and was ordered to take his prescribed medications.
