ST. PAUL -- The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency concluded $1.1 million in enforcement penalties last month, with a local firm paying the largest share of the total.
The $800,000 civil fine paid by Bushmills Ethanol of Atwater for water quality violations was the largest of 38 actions taken in the past month, according to the MPCA.
Other enforcement activities involving local companies included:
- Riverdale Environmental Services, Granite Falls, for solid waste violations, $4,512;
- Chip Worsech, dba Len Worsech & Co., Montevideo, for individual septic treatment system violations, $825;
- Recycle Express, Inc., Olivia, for solid waste violations, $1,200. The Recycle Express fine is forgivable, according to MPCA.
