Murder-suicide victims identified in Olivia

Two individuals who were found shot to death shortly after 10 p.m. Monday at a residence in Olivia have been identified. Robert Michael Mahoney, 58, appears to have been shot by his son Jay Michael Mahoney, 33, who then shot himself in a murder-suicide, according to a release from the Olivia Police Department.

At 10:10 p.m. Monday the Olivia Police Department, along with other agencies, responded to a report of a shooting at 1309 Birch Ave. W. in Olivia. When officers arrived they found the two deceased individuals.

The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension Crime Scene Unit responded to the scene. Plans are the bodies will be taken to the Twin Cities for autopsy, according to the report.
