National Weather Service continues red flag warning
WILLMAR -- The National Weather Service in Chanhassen is continuing the red flag warning today that began Monday for dangerous fire weather conditions in central and southern Minnesota.
A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions will occur. The weather service says a combination of strong wind, low relative humidity and warm temperatures will create explosive fire growth potential.
The weather service said temperatures will rise into the upper 80s to mid-90s under the continued influence of southerly wind gusts between 30 and 40 mph and minimum relative humidity of 20 to 25 percent.
Counties in the affected area include Stevens, Pope, Stearns, Lac qui Parle, Swift, Chippewa, Kandiyohi, Meeker, Yellow Medicine and Renville. Cities include Morris, Glenwood, Madison, Benson, Montevideo, Willmar, Litchfield, Granite Falls and Olivia.
