Nazi-unit commander blended into Minnesota community
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The former commander of a Nazi SS-led unit who made Minneapolis his home has maintained a regular voting history as a naturalized U.S. citizen.
An Associated Press investigation published Friday found that Michael Karkoc was a leader in the Ukrainian Self-Defense Legion during World War II. The unit is accused of wartime atrocities. The investigation showed Karkoc told American authorities that he performed no military service during the war.
