WILLMAR -- One thing to be said for the Lady Warriors' 1-4 start is that the road can't get much steeper.

The Lady Wildcats of North Dakota State College of Science tossed down Ridgewater for the second time in the new season, 71-46, on Wednesday night at the college gym.

It was an outcome similar to the game at Wahpeton that ended 63-42.

The Wildcats (7-5), who led 40-16 at halftime, have now won four straight, including one-point wins over both Miles City, Montana, and the Concordia College JV.

The NJCAA Division I school got solid contributions from two freshmen from the Tribune area, both in starting roles. Megan Groen of Danube (Renville County West) supplied nine points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals; Hannah Wenaas of Montevideo added eight points, three assists and three steals.

For Ridgewater, which shot 29 percent, Kari Caspers scored 13 points, Chelsea Voorhees nine and Alison Mason six.

Tara Thielke, the team's leading scorer, was 1 of 11 shooting and finished with only four points.

Ridgewater, which is 1-1 against Division III school, also took its lumps against the Northern State JV. The team will also play the St. Benedict JV.

This week the Ridgwater teams return to MCAC competition at International Falls and Hibbing.
