Nelsen files for Willmar, Minn., Ward 4 Council seat

WILLMAR — Audrey Nelsen filed an affidavit of candidacy Thursday for the Feb. 12 special election to fill the two-year unexpired term of Doug Reese in Ward 4 on the Willmar City Council.
Nelsen was employed in banking in the Willmar area for more than 25 years. She is currently employed by Peterson Brothers Funeral Home as a certified preplanning consultant/insurance agent. Also, she is a member of the Society of Certified Senior Advisors.
She has been a member of the Willmar Charter Commission for three years and serves as secretary. She served seven years on the Rice Memorial Hospital Board and served as chairman, and served on the Rice Health Foundation and Rice Home Medical Boards.
She served six years on the Planning Commission and served as chairman.
In other civil involvement, Nelson is past board member of the Willmar Area Community Center Advisory Board; past board member of Kandiyohi County United Way; past board member of Willmar Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce; charter member of Willmar Area Business and Professional Women; past board member of Bethesda Foundation and Governing Board; and member of Vinje Lutheran Church and currently serves on the Business Affairs Committee.
She and her husband, Paul, have three children.
Reese was elected to the Kandiyohi County Board of Commissioners in the November general election. There are two years remaining in Reese’s four-year council term.
Todd Bergeth also filed. The Tribune was unable to contact Bergeth on Thursday.
Jay Lawton filed earlier this week.
The last day to file for the special election at the City Clerk’s Office is 5 p.m. Dec. 18.
