WILLMAR — Audrey Nelsen was the winner in the Willmar City Council Ward 4 special election Tuesday to fill the unexpired term of former council member Doug Reese.

Nelsen, 61, a certified preplanning consultant for Peterson Brothers Funeral Home of Willmar, received 151 votes.

Lakeland Broadcasting sports director Todd Bergeth came in second with 104 write-in votes.

Jay Lawton, 55, inventory logistics coordinator for Jennie-O Turkey Store, came in third with 49 votes.

City Clerk-Treasurer Kevin Halliday said the turnout was typical for a special election.
