New London man faces criminal sex charges for assault on 12-year-old boy
WILLMAR -- Craig Allan Hargreaves, 38, of New London, made his first appearance Wednesday on two felony charges of criminal sexual conduct for allegedly assaulting a 12-year-old boy in 2007.
Unconditional bail was set at $75,000 and conditional bail at $25,000. He was ordered to have no contact with the boy or any child under 18 unless supervised by an adult. Hargreaves' next court appearance is April 20.
He faces one first-degree ch-arge and one second-degree ch-arge in Kandiyohi County District Court.
According to the complaint, a detective with the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office began investigating in October a family services report that the boy, now 14, had been sexually abused by Hargreaves.
The detective interviewed the boy, who said he stayed overnight at Hargreaves' home on three occasions in the late summer of 2007 and was assaulted by him. The incidents included sexual touching and attempts at oral and anal sex with the boy by Hargreaves.
The boy also said that Hargreaves had given him a lemonade-flavored alcoholic drink before one of the incidents.
A relative of the child was also interviewed and confirmed that the boy had stayed over at Hargreaves' home and that the child had a bad attitude after visiting him and later refused to visit Hargreaves.
In March, Hargreaves was interviewed and denied sexual contact with the boy, using alcohol in the presence of the boy or giving him alcohol to drink.
