New London, Minn., Music Festival is Saturday at Neer Park
NEW LONDON — The 15th annual New London Music Festival will be from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday at Neer Park in New London.
“Skilly and Duff,” from the Osakis area, will start the day with some rollicking Irish and Celtic tunes.
It will be followed by “Dan Newton’s Café Accordion Orchestra” playing an eclectic mix of French Musette, tangos, cha-chas and Latin tunes.
In the mid-afternoon, “The Cactus Blossoms” from the Twin Cities bring their high-lonesome harmonies to the stage. The bright fiddle and sad steel guitar make this “traditional country at its best.”Back from last year is “The Pachanga Society,” a high-energy group playing Latin rhythms tinged with a certain psychedelic rock-n-roll ethos.Finishing off the day will be “Davina and the Vagabonds.” They were a hit in 2010 with their original jazz/blues sound. The kids’ tent will have Minneapolis-based Z Puppets Rosenschnoz performing “The Comical Adventures of Mr. Punch” and later in the day “Magic Mama” will be performing her own family friendly brand of organic hip-hop and world beats. The New London CAT Ladies will have arts and craft activities and Prairie Woods Environmental Learning Center will be giving rides up and down the river in a 34-foot Voyageur canoe. The Link, a local social services/advocacy organization, will be selling locally produced eats to help raise money for their work. The Church Ladies will be serving homemade pie with ice cream, and there will be vendors selling locally produced bread, honey, truffles, carrot cake and more.Tickets are $15 at the gate, children 15 and under get in free when accompanied by an adult.
