MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- The Star Tribune and the St. Paul Pioneer Press are asking a federal judge to unseal documents in a case between the NFL and the players' union.

The documents deal with a dispute over money the league received from television broadcasts. The players' union has argued that the NFL improperly negotiated about $4 billion in TV contracts for 2011.

The newspapers want the judge to unseal documents that have been labeled as "confidential." They say the public has a compelling interest in the case "given the economic significance of professional football."

The NFL Players Association is also asking that documents be unsealed. A hearing on the requests will be held Thursday.

The money has become part of legal maneuverings connected to labor negotiations between the NFL and its players' union.
