NLS girls oust BBE in 6AA-North

COLLEGEVILLE -- New London-Spicer took another step to a Section 6AA-North title with a 50-39 win over Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa in girls basketball action at St. John's Saturday.

Though that step was a little rocky from the first half to the second. The Wildcats (27-1) scored 42 points in the first 20 minutes and led by 17 at the break, but only scored eight points in the second half.

They were helped out by a defense that held the Jaguars to 14 second-half points.

NLS shot 17 for 27 from the field, including 7 of 10 from the arc, in the first half. In the second half, the Wildcats were 2-of-19 overall and 0 for 6 from three-point range.

Cassie Ziemer led a balanced offensive attack for NLS with nine points.

NLS plays Sauk Centre Tuesday at St. John's 7 p.m. In double overtime, Sauk Centre knocked off Albany for the third time this season. Brianna Jacobson had seven rebounds.

Heidi Lensing scored a game-high 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Jaguars (18-9).
