No serious injuries in Lac qui Parle Valley school bus accident in Swift County
MADISON -- A school bus driver and a 17-year-old student were transported to the Morris and Appleton hospitals to be treated for non-life threatening injuries after a Lac qui Parle Valley school bus left a rural highway this morning.
The Minnesota State Patrol reported that the one-vehicle accident occurred at 7:36 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highways 12 and 59, north of Holloway. The bus was eastbound when it left the road.
Students on the bus were checked by Emergency Medical Technicians at the scene. They boarded another bus and were transported to the Lac qui Parle Valley High School.
There, School Nurse Renaee Schreck checked each student and their parents were contacted about the accident, according to Renae Tostenson, a school administrator who will be the district's superintendent at the start of the new year.
Tostenson said the students were doing well and all immediately began their normal school schedules. A number of the students were slated for physical education classes in the high school's indoor pool, and were eager to get to school, she added.
Tostenson said the school feels very fortunate that no serious injuries appear to have been suffered.
She said the bus driver was transported to the Morris Hospital and the student to the Appleton Hospital.
