No students hurt today in 4-vehicle crash with Willmar school bus
WILLMAR – Students on a Willmar school bus escaped injury Monday afternoon when the bus they were riding home from school was involved in a four-vehicle crash.
The accident happened at around 3:20 p.m. on 19th Avenue.
According to the Willmar Police Department the accident happened while a bus, driven by Douglas C. Dodge, 67, of Willmar was going east on 19th Avenue and making a scheduled drop off in the area of 9th Street Southeast.
The school bus had its amber lights activated and was coming to a stop.
A second vehicle, a 2003 Ford Ranger driven by William P. Flickinger, 25 of St. Cloud, was following the bus and came to a stop behind it on 19th Ave.
A third vehicle, also traveling east, swerved left to avoid colliding with the pickup and stopped near the center of the lane without making contact with any of the vehicles.
A fourth vehicle, a 2004 Toyota Sienna van driven by Kaitlyn M. Lindblad, 20 of Willmar was also eastbound and struck the pickup from behind and pushed it into the back of the school bus.
The bus had students on board at the time of the crash.
Initially no injuries were reported, but Willmar Ambulance personnel responded to the scene and evaluated the students and drivers. None were transported to the hospital via ambulance.
Children were switched to another bus and the route was continued.
The Ford Ranger) and Toyota Sienna were both towed from the scene.
Responding to the crash were the Willmar Police Department, Willmar Ambulance, Willmar Fire Department and Kandiyohi County Rescue Squad.
The investigation into the crash is continuing.
