BROOTEN -- Noble "Toby" Oline Nelson, 96, of Richville, formerly of Brooten, died Monday at Frazee Care Center in Frazee.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Big Grove Lutheran Church, rural Brooten. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Brooten. Memorials preferred to Big Grove Lutheran Church or the Ohlfest Brain Tumor Lab at the University of Minnesota.
He was born Sept. 27, 1912, on the family farm north of Brooten to Gubrand and Marie (Holte) Nelson. He began working full time as a farm hand and dairy worker in Arlington, S.D., when he was 16. During the Great Depression, he worked in California until 1938, when he returned to Minnesota.
He married Rose Townsend on Dec. 2, 1939, in Arlington, S.D. They moved to Sioux Falls, S.D., where he worked as a milkman at Terrace Park Dairy for nearly 30 years.
He is survived by his wife; children: Judie (and LeRoy) Danielson of Richville, Larry (and Susan) Nelson of Albert Lea; siblings: Gordon (and Ruth) Nelson of Sauk Rapids and Ardes Morris of Edina.
