Nordic skiing: Mora boys, girls sweep Willmar Triangular

WILLMAR — Following last season’s un-Minnesota winter, the Willmar Cardinals Nordic team got a home meet Thursday.
Mora and Alexandria were the guests. The 5k races were held on the well-groomed Swan Lake Cross County Trail which loops about the wavy back 9 of the Eagle Creek Golf Course.
Mora, home of the famed Vasaloppet, easily won both varsity team races on a fast course. The first four boys were from Mora and the top two girls to finish on the sunny, 20-degree afternoon in a biting northerly wind.
Willmar’s top finishers were freshman Jack Erickson (fifth) and sophomore Samantha Hanson (seventh).
Races were also held for junior varsity and middle school.
The Cardinals have the majority of the school’s Christmas break off before heading north to Alexandria to participate in a meet at Arrowwood Resort on Friday, Jan. 5.
