Norman Balcik Nov. 24, 1923 - May 25, 2009
LAKE LILLIAN -- Norman Balcik, 85, of Lake Lillian, died Monday at Bethesda Pleasantview Nursing Home in Willmar.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Church of St. Mary in Willmar. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post 167 of Willmar.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m., and for one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.
He was born Nov. 24, 1923, in Cudahy, Wis., to Frank and Paulina (Koehn) Balcik. The family moved to a farm near Lakefield when he was 7. Following his schooling, he stayed home and farmed with his father. He served in the Navy from March 20, 1945, to July 8, 1946.
He married Veronica Jandera on June 20, 1952, in Bismarck, N.D. They lived in Bismarck for a short time before moving to Willmar, and in 1980 they moved to Svea. He farmed for a few years but spent most of his career as a building contractor.
He was a member of American Legion Post 167 of Willmar.
He is survived by his wife; daughter: Jean (and Gerald) Carlson of Willmar; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
