According to the Meeker County Sheriff’s office, emergency crews were called to the Craig and Barbara Kay residence in Dassel Township around 3:33 p.m. Thursday in response to a backyard sledding accident involving the couple’s granddaughter who was visiting from Fayetteville, NC.

The girl had been sledding down a hill with other children in the backyard when her sled hit a raised stump and she was ejected from the sled, according to Meeker County Sheriff Jeff Norlin.

Gold Cross Ambulance transported the girl to Meeker Memorial Hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

The Meeker County Sheriff's Office is continuing to investigate this death.

The children were under adult supervision and this appears to be a tragic accident resulting in the death of a 10-year-old family member, said Norlin.
