North side trail improvements planned in Willmar, Minn.
WILLMAR -- The city of Willmar's Public Works/Safety Committee has approved plans and specifications and called for bids to improve a portion of the north side recreational trail. A trail grant will pay 75 percent of the estimated $130,000.
The trail begins at the southwest boat landing at Robbins Island, continues along Business 71, through a redesigned crossing at Ella Avenue, and over the First Street Bridge. The segment will be widened to a 10-foot bituminous path.
In addition, the bridge pedestrian walkway is proposed to be widened with an additional two feet of concrete along the west side of the bridge. That work will depend on where costs come in, said Bruce Peterson, planning and development director, but he hopes to have it included.
