The Stingers now lead the Beetles by a half game in the division race for a second-half playoff spot. Willmar, now 18-11, leads St. Cloud by 1-1/2 games with six games to play.

The Stingers and Beetles play again, this time in Willmar, at 7:05 p.m. today. They play one more game on the road in Mankato on Wednesday before returning to Bill Taunton Stadium to wrap up the regular season with four home games against Mankato and Thunder Bay.

If the Stingers can hang onto the second-half lead, they would play Mankato, the division's first-half winner, to open the league playoffs.

On Monday, Alexandria built a 5-2 lead through four innings, and the Stingers scored three in the fifth to tie the game before immediately surrendering four in the bottom half of the inning. The Beetles tacked on a run in the seventh and the Stingers' rally in the ninth fell short.

Willmar's Forrestt Allday, who already holds the league's walks record, scored his record 62nd run on Monday. Allday was 2-for-3 and scored twice, M Kuhn drove in two runs and scored three times, and Michael Suchy had two hits and an RBI.

Kyle Fischer took the loss, allowing 11 hits and 9 runs in 4-2/3 innings.
