The Stingers increased their lead in the Northwoods League North Division to 2.5 games over the second-place Huskies. Their record improved to 17-10, and their magic number for a playoff spot now sits at six with eight games remaining.

Duluth got a first-inning run off Willmar starter Scott Lieser, but the Stingers came back with three runs on a hit, an error and two walks in the bottom half to take a 3-1 lead.

Duluth tied it up in the third, but the Stingers again came back in the bottom half with two more runs on an RBI-double by Mitch Rowan and an RBI-single by Michael Suchy.

This time, the lead held, and the Stingers added two more insurance runs on an bases-loaded walk by Dillon Haupt and an RBI-triple off the bat of Max Kuhn.

Rowan was 2-for-2 and scored two runs, and Forrestt Allday had a hit, two walks and two runs.

Lieser earned the win, tossing all six innings and striking out six.

Evan Geist got the loss for Duluth.

The Stingers face Duluth 7:05 p.m. today in Willmar.
