‘Nuncrackers’ opens tonight at The Barn Theatre in Willmar, Minn.
The Barn Theatre is presenting “Nuncrackers! The Nunsense Christmas Musical” by Dan Goggin at 7:30 p.m. tonight through Saturday and Dec. 11-14. The Sunday matinees are at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 8 and 15.
Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students and are available at the box office, 321 Fourth St. S.W. in downtown Willmar.
The play is presented as the first TV special taped in the Cable Access Studio built by Reverend Mother in the convent basement. It stars the nuns of the convent, plus Father Virgil, and four of Mount Saint Helen’s most talented students.
Songs include “Twelve Days Prior to Christmas,” “Santa Ain’t Comin’ to Our House,” “We Three Kings of Orient Are Us,” and “It’s Better to Give than to Receive,” all leading to a version of Tchaikovsky’s “Nutcracker” ballet.
The show is filled with typical “Nunsense” humor, some of your favorite carols, and a “Secret Santa” audience participation.
Cast members are Leanne Thompson, Ashleigh Gulden, Randi Larson, Heidi Ahmann, Ben Watson, Emily Malmgren, Jacob Meyer, Sofia Lynum, Nate Lundstrum, Sonja Madsen and Abigail Thompson.
The play is directed by Nikki Bettcher Erickson with Tim Ostby as the vocal director; Pauline Prawl is the choreographer, Craig Kimmerle is the pianist and Tedd Rieke is the drummer. Becky Sorenson is the stage manager. Carol Olson and Dan Schell are the technical directors.
