NWL Baseball: Stingers complete fourth NWL season with win over playoff-bound Waterloo

WILLMAR — Nick Halamandaris homered and Colin Poche went seven strong innings in the Willmar Stingers’ 7-5 victory over the Waterloo Bucks on Sunday at Bill Taunton Stadium in the Stingers’ season-finale.

The Stingers finished 41-29 overall and 18-17 in the second half of the Northwoods League North Division.

Halamandaris broke a 0-0 tie with one out in the fourth, smacking a two-run homer off Waterloo starter Grant Borne.

Colton Bottomley, who had singled, scored on the homer.

Zack Tillery doubled in two runs in the seventh, and Marc Flores followed with his 26th double of the season, setting the Northwoods League all-time record, to drive in Tillery.

Poche earned his sixth win of the season, scattering 10 hits and three runs while striking out five, and Cody Hughes picked up his third save.
