NWL Baseball: Stingers take over first place
WATERLOO, Iowa — Andrew Towns had his second straight strong start and Reagan Fowler and Alex Borglin each knocked three hits in the Willmar Stingers’ 7-2 win over the Waterloo Bucks on Wednesday at Riverfront Stadium.
The Stingers improved to 12-4 and are in sole possession of first place in the Northwoods League North Division.
Fowler cranked an RBI double in the third inning, scoring Hunter Webb, and came around to score on a Nick Rivera groundout for a 2-0 Willmar lead.
The Bucks got one back in the bottom half on Luke Stratman’s RBI base hit, and the 2-1 score held until the sixth on Brian Pruett’s RBI groundout.
Willmar exploded for four insurance runs in the ninth with RBI singles off the bats of Fowler, Casey Hughston and Borglin, and an error on right fielder Jon McAllister.
Towns left after the sixth inning, and Ben Gullo recorded a three-inning save, allowing just one hit and fanning three.
Waterloo’s Dane Dunning started and suffered the loss.
