NWS expands heat advisory to west central, central Minn.
WILLMAR -- The heat advisory in effect through Thursday evening has been expanded to Willmar and much of the rest of west central and central Minnesota.
The National Weather Service office in the Twin Cities says temperatures in the lower to middle 90s combined with heat indices near 100 will lead to a heightened risk for heat-related illness.
The dangerous heat this afternoon will continue again on Thursday.
Willmar, Benson, Montevideo, Olivia and Litchfield are among the west central Minnesota cities included in the advisory.
A large area of high pressure is stationary over the Midwest, the National Weather Service says, and the advisory will be in place through Thursday night, when a cold front will drop across the region. Cooler air is expected Friday.
