NWS lowers Red River crest forecast to 34.4 feet at Fargo-Moorhead
FARGO - The National Weather Service on Thursday lowered the crest forecast to 34.4 feet for the Red River at Fargo.
By 10:15 p.m. Thursday, it appeared the river had dropped from 34 feet to 33.91 feet.
The U.S. Geological Survey hasn't declared 34 feet as the official crest yet, said Mike Lukes, hydrologist at the weather service in Grand Forks, N.D.
Wednesday's forecast called for a river crest of 35.5 feet early Saturday. However, that and other forecasts released within the past couple of weeks factored in normal rainfall, Lukes said.
