Olivia, Minn., woman to serve 98 months in prison for possessing 43 grams of meth
OLIVIA -- An Olivia woman will serve 98 months in prison after drug task force agents seized more than 43 grams of methamphetamine from her home.
Mary Jane Lara, 52, was sentenced Wednesday in District Court in Olivia, reported Renville County Assistant Attorney Glen Jacobsen.
Lara had pleaded guilty March 2 to an amended felony charge of first-degree possession of drugs - 25 grams or more. -
The sentence is the presumptive sentence for the charge under state guidelines and based on her prior criminal history.
Agents with the Brown, Lyon, Lincoln, Redwood and Renville Counties Drug Task Force arrested Lara when they executed a search warrant on June 6, 2011, at her home in Olivia.
According to the complaint, officers seized 41 grams of methamphetamine from various locations in the home. Some of the methamphetamine was individually wrapped.
There were packages holding approximately one gram of the drug, and others holding 3.5 grams, the latter known as 8-balls.
The agents also seized a digital scale, numerous notes listing money owed for sales, drug smoking devices, packaging materials and needles, according to the complaint.
Lara has a previous federal conviction in Texas for aiding and abetting illegal entry, and for failure to appear in court, according to court documents.
