Olivia Police Chief Davern's death is announced

Olivia Police Chief Donald Davern died unexpectedly Sunday.

Davern's death was announced in a news release early Monday morning by the Olivia Police Department. No further details were released concerning his death.

Davern had served 34 years in the Olivia Police Department, first as an officer and then as chief of police. He also was the Olivia Civil Defense Director.

He had also served as Renville County Sheriff for four years.

The Olivia Police Department has five full-time officers and other part-time staff.

Funeral services are pending.
