One man seriously injured in melee on Willmar street

WILLMAR -- One man received what were described as significant injuries in a melee that occurred between two groups of men at 6 a.m. on Saturday morning in the 400 block of Charlotte Street Southeast in Willmar.

The 23-year-old man was taken to Rice Memorial Hospital and treated, according to information from the Willmar Police Department.

There were allegations that bats or other weapons may have been used in the fight.

A 17-year-old male was arrested and is currently being held at Prairie Lakes Detention Center pending the filing of formal charges.

Willmar Police Sgt. Michael Markkanen reports that the fight remains under investigation and that further arrests are possible.
