Opal Gruetzmacher 20, 1914 - Dec. 8, 2012
WILLMAR - Opal L. Gruetzmacher, 98, of Willmar, died Saturday, December 8, 2012 at Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar. Her funeral will be 11:00 am, Friday, December 14th at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar with visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Cloverleaf Cemetery in Willmar. www.hafh.org
Opal was born in Swea City, Iowa on June 20, 1914, the daughter of William H. and Bessie (Valentine) Krueger. The family moved to Willmar in 1915.
Opal attended Priam and Atwater Schools before enrolling in Willmar where she graduated in 1932. She continued her education at North Central Bible College, where she graduated in 1939. She was employed at Honeywell for a number of years. She graduated from The Vocational School of Nursing in Minneapolis in 1946. She worked at Northwestern Hospital, Montevideo-Chippewa County Hospital and Rice Memorial Hospital.
On July 12, 1952, she was united in marriage to Edgar Gruetzmacher. They lived in Victoria, Texas until his death in 1993. While living in Texas, Opal worked for hospitals in the area for many years. Following Edgars death, Opal moved back to Willmar.
She was a charter member of Willmar Assembly of God where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir.
Surviving are her brother, Veryl Krueger and sisters, Delores Werner and Betty Schultz; sister-in-law, Goldie Krueger and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, Edgar; she was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Harold, Everett, Orville, William and Russell Krueger; sisters, Bernice Merkouris, Eunice Hallblade and Vila Baker and brothers-in-law, George Schultz and Ben Werner.
